Thomas D. Cox Jr, is Co-Founder and President of Gracepoint Homes. Cox, a second -generation homebuilder, began his homebuilding career as a customer service representative for nationally-recognized Emerald Homes in 1993. He went on to serve as Project Manager in Guadalajara, Mexico; Senior Operations Manager of Emerald’s Phoenix Division; and Division President of Emerald’s Dallas Division. Upon Emerald’s sale to a national builder, Cox became Houston Division President in the organization, managing the company’s entire Houston portfolio. He achieved profitability in three months and successfully took the startup from producing 190 units and $30 million in revenues to more than 2,670 units and $490 million in revenues, representing an unprecedented growth of more than 400 percent in four years. Cox left the national builder to start Gracepoint Homes in 2006.
Cox holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Mississippi State University where he also served as President, Rush, Social and Philanthropy Chairman of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and was also President of IFC.
Over the course of his career, Cox has actively participated in major homebuilding industry associations such as GHBA and TAB where he co-chaired the committee that established the Sunbelt Builder Convention, and has won 10 prism awards for design, marketing and advertising. His accomplishments are outstanding. At Gracepoint Homes alone, Cox raised more than $70 million dollars in capital funds, raised institutional capital and most notably, successfully attained $75 million dollars in revenues in 2016, despite a soft market. Cox also created In City MUD for Stillwater.
In his spare time, Cox has been involved in many not-for-profit endeavors including the design and build of the Tamina Community Center—a 2500 square-foot home in Tamina that serves the underprivileged in both after school programs and as a regional food pantry. In 2016, Cox built a 3200 square-foot home for Angel Reach, which serves as home to a foster care program designed to help young adults who age out of institutional orphanages in Montgomery County. In addition, he rehabilitated a home in Splendora by building two acres of fence to help a family who has mentally challenged children. Finally, Cox also participates in home make-overs with Keller Williams Realty and Keller Williams Red Day.
Cox not only serves his community, but his church as well. He has served on many committees at The Woodlands United Methodist Church including a six-year stint as a member of the Pastoral Parish Relations committee and a two-year stint on the Finance Committee. He served as building chairman in 2004 and negotiated the purchase of land where The Loft Church now sits. He also led a team that constructed The Loft and main campus additions.
Finally, Cox serves on the Board of Directors for Arteriorvenus Malformation (AVM) and is an outside advisor to Angel Reach Foundation.
Cox has been married to his wife, Bonnie, for 23 years and has three children—Maddie who attends Auburn University, and Lily and Kylie who both attend Mississippi State University.
Bonnie is part of the team that has been designing award-winning Gracepoint Homes model homes and implementing selections for spec homes for more than 20 years. She has handled interior selections for literally thousands of homes over the past two decades.
